Just Chat

We had a good turnout last month, most of our members being present. We do not have too many members these days but it is nice to have the support of the members we do have, thank you all. We also have the support of members who are unable to attend our meetings, our thanks to them also.

The usual room that we use for our meetings was not available for our last one and it is possible that it will not be available for the next few. Should members attend and find our usual room being used by another group, someone in the office will be able to give directions.

I have often written of how I am not a great user of the internet and so not very knowledgeable about it. It is not easy to distance oneself from the subject however and I am frequently asked questions which I am unable to answer. I accept how very useful the internet is and I do use it on occasions. I am also very grateful to Nigel King who I see on occasions when he "surfs the net" for me.

Having written the above, I am at the moment working with my son (who has less knowledge than me about the internet) on a another website. Barry already has a section on Nigel's website but the one we are working on is a specialist one for artists and publishers of greeting cards etc. We have not done a lot at the moment as we are working through a thirty page instruction book but what we have done looks very good. The sight will eventually give details about Barry's work and will initially have three sections with illustrations. The first section will illustrate greeting cards, the second paintings and the third sketches and drawings. Later a section may be added for books that he has had published.

The internet address of Barry's website is: -

I am still ploughing through dozens of VHS tapes of my neighbour and recording them to DVD. The project is not entirely successful as he has recorded several films compressed to one 180 minute tape and the subsequent quality although acceptable by him on a VHS recorder does not always transfer too well to DVD. I have spent hours recording a film that seems all right initially but later fails. Some seem to transfer all right but I do not know until I have wasted a lot of time.

Some months ago, I purchased a really nice case to store 200 CD's. I mentioned this in a newsletter previously. The case cost £10 which I thought a very reasonable price. I quickly filled the case and attempted to get another without success. The case was purchased at the computer fair usually held monthly at the Novotel hotel. I inquired at a local shop and was pleased to find that the same case was stocked by them, pleased that is until I found that their price for a similar case but in black and not silver, which I preferred, was £24. A black version had been available at the computer fair for £8. At the last computer fair I inquired about a case, but was again told that they were not available at the moment but would be in a few days if I cared to call at the proprietor's house. A few days later I called at the house where I was pleased to find a silver case waiting for me. Price? £10
