I hope that all members had a very happy Christmas and I wish all a happy and prosperous new year.
Unfortunately, neither Christmas or the new year has been very happy for me. I was in bed all over the Christmas period
with a very bad stomach chill and my son also had a very bad cold so our celebrations were cancelled. It was impossible
for us to celebrate with parties as had been arranged so we agreed that we would have the presents round the Christmas tree
on new year's day. I was feeling much better by then but my son was still suffering and every one else seemed to be off
colour.
I had thought that in spite of the weather I was back to normal but not so. I have spent the last two days in bed with an extremely bad cold. It's not easy when you are by yourself although I have not had much of an appetite. I have not seen anybody since new years day although my son 'phones me twice a day. I have had very good company however during the period. My little kitten knows that something is wrong and yesterday sat by my bed all day. Usually she spends the whole day in the garden and has done so today but she came in this afternoon and is sitting by me now. Amazing how animals know when something is wrong.
My appeal for renewed memberships made in the last newsletter brought an excellent response. Most members have renewed and I am confident others will follow. Thank you so very much for your support. I am aware that we do not do much organising but it is nice to meet once a month even if only for a chat.
I wrote that my computer was back working well last month and that I can now can use the internet although with my limited internet requirements I do not have broadband so everything is a little slow. I can now be contacted again by email at ken.miles@virgin.net. or as listed below.
My computer is now working. Most programs I like to use are now useable although not fully, some parts still do not work. I have had a lot of work done in the house so that I have not had time to devote to computing. I am a bit mystified because Nigel King came to my house after the last meeting and sorted me out and left things working. I did not touch the computer for a few weeks and when I attempted to record from Sky television all I got was a message saying that no signal was being received. The TV works perfectly and I have checked all the cables and connections and everything seems OK. Yes - I do think that I might be getting a bit past it. I will have another go when I feel better.
Members may recall all the trouble and expense I had with my computer recently. I must have taken the computer back to the repairers a half a dozen times before things seemed to be normal. The computer was taken in originally for what I thought was a simple fault but I finished up paying over £150.
Having reinstalled my programs plus a couple of new ones but I find that the help files are not available. The cause of this is that the help file for Notepad is missing and this file is used by other programs. Back to the dealer again when I am feeling better.
