This is the first time that I have used my computer since the last newsletter. Not quite true as I have an older computer on which I keep an up to date diary. Not that I have had much to enter in my diary as it is over two months now since I was struck down with the worst cold that I have ever had. I am feeling much better now but still far from my old self.
During the period that I have not felt well I have taken the opportunity to have this, my main computer, sent for a clean up. Members may recall that on starting my computer for the last year or so it has come up with a notice stating that "The specified module could not be found". This has not caused any sort of failure of the computer but was most annoying. I have sought help from many sources in order to get rid of the notice without success. There is quite a lot of information on the internet about this, with several suggestions for getting rid of the message, but nothing worked.
I did venture into Portswood, Southampton to do a little shopping and there is a computer shop there. I have made one or two inquiries there in the past and although I never spent any money I always found the staff polite and helpful. On this occasion I called in and asked them if they knew of this problem and could they do anything about it. They said that they did not know of this particular problem but were sure that they could solve it. When they told me that if I could get the computer to them they would give it a complete clean up I was pleased but expected it to be quite expensive. I was very pleasantly surprised when they told me that the cost would be £35.
I took the computer to them and a few days later was told that it was ready for collection. With the computer came a report of the work done which was as follows:-

In addition they installed the free versions of:-

All this for £35. Very good service indeed.
I had purchased but not used Norton Internet Security which includes the following:-

If anyone is interested, the new boxed set can be obtained from me for £10 (Ken - 02380 769485)
Last year, I purchased a Cannon scanner for £120 which I am very pleased with and use it a fair bit when I am well. Recently, my son needed a new printer and purchased a Kodak Easyshare 5300 which is a printer, copier and scanner for which he paid £100 although I have seen them advertised for £85. A set of inks cost about £16. My son is involved in photography and printing with his business and so needs excellent prints which this printer produces.
Cantell have been very co-operative and have offered to assist us in getting more members by placing notices around the school and advertising in their newsletter. Unfortunately because of my health problems this last couple of months I have been unable to prepare anything, but I will.
It would be nice if we could get a few more members. I would like to get back to the position where we could demonstrate something at our meetings.
