I live in Marchwood and would like broadband.
Hello,
My problem is that the village telephone service is supplied from the exchange in Totton. My line from
the exchange is over 6 km long, which is the maximum, even for a poor broadband service. So I have had to look
into other means to get a broadband service.
23rd August 2004
From September 6th applications for broadband will not be rejected on line length only, the press release can be
found here. Comments about it can be found in the INQUIRER,
The Register and in the ADSL Guide.
Some ISPs are taking advance orders, list of ISPs but by telephone only, as the online systems will not been up-dated until after September 6th.

The company Satwire have been very helpful and at only around £30 a month, for up to 40 times
faster than dial-up, that's 4 times faster than normal broadband. If your require more details,
please visit www.Satwire.co.uk, and don't
forget to register while you are there. They only need 20 before they will install it. They have
sent me a few leaflets for their service, I have scanned one and can be found here.

If you also live in Marchwood and require a good broadband service, then you can help. By getting together, a local
radio service can be introduced, the base station will be able to connect to the internet via high speed link, then
those in the village would connect to the base station via a low power two-way transmitter, which will mean
broadband at 512 kb/s or better.
What will it cost?
The base station would be installed and supplied by the service provider. You would need the low
power two-way transmitter, supplied and installed, this would be £:30 (Satwire) £40 (IAP), £175 (FDM) and £195 (Shere). Then a monthly charge of about £30
for an always-on internet connection of up to 512 kb/s. This is based on the services which are being offered to other
villages in the south of England.
